Bat & Bird Removal in Kalamazoo & Portage

Bats in the attic? Birds in the vents?

Bats and birds move into outside lighting, attic vents, gutters, soffits, chimneys and sheds. They’re rarely dangerous, but they leave droppings, nesting debris and noise behind, and nests can block vents and damage property. Johnson Pest Control has experience removing bats and birds safely from homes and properties across the Kalamazoo area.

Signs of bats

  • Small dark droppings piling up under eaves, on window sills or on attic insulation
  • Brown or greasy stains around gaps in siding, trim or chimney flashing
  • Scratching or squeaking in the walls or attic at dusk and dawn
  • Bats flying out of the roofline right after sunset

Birds we deal with most

  • Woodpeckers drilling into siding, trim and fascia
  • Pigeons roosting on roofs, ledges and signs
  • Starlings nesting in vents, soffits and gaps in the roofline
  • English (house) sparrows nesting in vents, gutters, light fixtures and signs

Signs of nesting birds

  • Twigs, grass or feathers sticking out of dryer, bath or attic vents
  • Chirping inside vents or soffits
  • Droppings building up on siding, decks or signs
  • Birds repeatedly flying in and out of a gap in the roofline, light fixture or gutter

How bat and bird removal works

Bat removal takes some care, so we start with a free assessment by phone or email. Tell us what you’re seeing and we’ll explain the options. If we need to come out, an on-site evaluation is $150.

We handle bats by exclusion and sealing: we get the bats out of the building, then seal the entry points so they can’t get back in. For birds, we use proven exclusion and removal methods to get them out and keep them from coming back.

Wildlife repairs

We also repair the damage animals leave behind, including vent screens, chimney caps and attic cleanup. Repairs are quoted after we know what’s needed.

Frequently asked questions

Are bats dangerous?

Most bats never come in contact with people. Bats can carry rabies, though, so never handle one bare-handed. If a bat was found in a room where someone was sleeping, contact your doctor or the local health department.

Can you just kill the bats?

Exclusion and sealing is the long-term fix: it gets the bats out and keeps them out. Bats also eat huge numbers of insects, so getting them to live somewhere else is the better outcome for everyone.

How much does it cost to check for bats?

A phone or email assessment is free. If we need to come out, an on-site evaluation is $150.
