Lake homes, cottages and country living
Richland is northeast of Kalamazoo along M-89, close to Gull Lake and a string of smaller lakes, with farm fields and woods in between. Gull Lake is one of the communities we already list on our wildlife removal page. Around here, the pest problems come with the lake: bats in the eaves, birds nesting in vents, mosquitoes on the dock, and wasps under the deck.
Bats and birds at lake houses
Lake homes and cottages tend to have a lot of trim, roof lines, boathouses and outbuildings, which means lots of places for bats to squeeze into and birds to nest. Bats and birds are rarely dangerous, but they leave droppings and mess, and nests in dryer vents or gutters can cause damage.
Bat removal is tricky, so we start by talking it through. That assessment is free by phone or email. Then we get bats out by exclusion and sealing the entry points so they can’t get back in. We also handle woodpeckers, pigeons, starlings and English sparrows, and do repairs like vent screens and chimney caps. See our bat and bird removal service.
Mosquitoes and ticks around the water
Summer evenings by the lake are why people live in Richland, and mosquitoes are the price. Our organic mosquito, flea and tick program uses a green yard fogger to treat the house and the parts of the yard you actually use. It’s applied monthly from April to October, and it’s safe for kids and pets.
- Up to 10,000 sq ft: $99 per visit
- Each additional 10,000 sq ft: add $32
Wasps, yellow jackets and carpenter bees
Docks, boathouses, decks and play sets are favorite spots for paper wasp and yellow jacket nests, and carpenter bees drill into untreated wood. If you only want the outside of your home or cottage treated during the season, our exterior-only summer building spray is $99 per visit, April-October. Year-round customers get stinging insects handled in their regular general pest control plan. More on our wasp and bee control page.
Seasonal homes and mice
Cottages that sit empty over the winter are easy targets for mice. A fall visit before you close up helps keep rodents out of drawers and insulation while you’re away. General pest plans start with a $165 initial visit, then $96.25 (Gold, monthly), $99.25 (Silver, 7 visits) or $112.93 (Bronze, quarterly) per visit. Call us to set up a schedule that fits your season.
No contract. Our plans are pay-as-you-go, and you can cancel anytime. A $50 cancellation fee applies.
Scheduling: on every plan, the first two visits are two weeks apart.
Raccoons and other wildlife
Raccoons on the dock, groundhogs under the shed, muskrats along the shoreline: our flat-rate wildlife program is $625 for 7-10 days of trapping and removal, with unlimited animals and no per-animal fees. We also handle skunks. Call (269) 459-1788 for a quote.
