Organic Pest Control in Vicksburg, MI

Protecting Vicksburg’s older homes and lake cottages

Vicksburg is a short drive southeast of Portage. It’s a village with an old downtown, century-old houses on tree-lined streets, newer homes on the edges, and cottages and year-round homes around Sunset Lake and the nearby lakes. Wood-framed older homes and damp lakeside lots are a natural target for wood-destroying insects, so Vicksburg homeowners ask us a lot about termites and carpenter ants.

Termites: protect the house without soaking the soil

Eastern subterranean termites are native to southwest Michigan. They come up from the soil and eat wood from the inside, so damage often goes unseen until a spring swarm or a soft spot in a sill plate gives them away. If your home is on a private well, it matters what goes into the ground.

Our green termite service uses bait stations installed around the outside of the house instead of a chemical soil barrier. Termites carry the bait back and the colony dies. For termites already in the walls, we inject foam right where they are.

  • Bait station installation: $725 (done once, at the first visit)
  • Station checks: $99 each, monthly for 6 months
  • Yearly warranty renewal: $295
  • Wall foam injections for active infestations: $325. These are free if termites come back while you’re under warranty.

Termite treatment comes with a one-year guarantee, and our prices are backed by our price-beating policy.

Carpenter ants in damp wood

Carpenter ants don’t eat wood, but they hollow it out to nest, usually where it’s been softened by moisture: porch posts, window frames, roof edges and the decks you see at lake homes. If you’re finding large black ants inside in early spring, there may be a nest in the structure. Our spring visit targets carpenter ants along with pavement ants and early-season spiders. See ant control.

Lake-season mosquitoes

Sunset Lake and the other lakes and wetlands around Vicksburg mean heavy mosquito pressure in summer. Our organic mosquito, flea and tick program runs monthly April-October: $99 for up to 10,000 sq ft of yard, plus $32 for each additional 10,000 sq ft.

Year-round general pest control

Mice in fall, stink bugs on south walls, and yellow jackets at the picnic table in August are all covered by our general pest control plans. The initial visit is $165. Then it’s Gold at $96.25 a visit (monthly), Silver at $99.25 (7 visits a year) or Bronze at $112.93 (quarterly).

No contract. Our plans are pay-as-you-go, and you can cancel anytime. A $50 cancellation fee applies.

Scheduling: on every plan, the first two visits are two weeks apart.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge extra to come out to Vicksburg?

No. There’s no extra travel charge anywhere in our service area, including our farther towns.

How can I pay?

We accept all common payment methods.

How do I know if I have termites or carpenter ants?

Termites leave mud tubes on foundation walls and swarm with straight-waisted bodies and equal-length wings. Carpenter ants are larger, have pinched waists, and leave piles of sawdust-like debris. If you’re not sure, call us and describe what you see. The phone consultation is free.

I’m on a well. Is your termite treatment safe?

Our bait-and-foam method keeps harmful chemicals out of the ground and out of wells and groundwater.

Do I need the station checks if I just want prevention?

No. Station checks are for active termite infestations. A preventative program uses the stations plus the yearly renewal.

Do you service the lakes outside the village?

Yes. Vicksburg and the surrounding lake areas are in our service area.
